Summary: It's Spring time in the capital and everybody rejoices when the Red Caravan and its performers arrive, signaling the start of festival season, however, Prince Yunho is also in town, returning after three years battling in the Holy Land. What happens when the Red Caravan's most famous peformer, Kim Jaejoong, and Prince Yunho meet?
A/N: Mother of God, this chapter is long. Like, REALLY LONG. Hense it's split into two parts. The next part will be out tomorrow and if not tomorrow, at least this week. Enjoy!
That night Jaejoong could not sleep. The day’s excitement was still pumping through his veins making it impossible for his body to relax and for his mind to quiet down its thoughts. A gray cat slept soundly on top of his naked chest, the night too hot to wear anything other than his underpants. His fingers carded through the soft fur of the purring animal on top of him while he willed his eyes to close and his mind to embrace unconsciousness.
Only Changmin was fast asleep, chest rising and falling softly a few feet away from Jaejoong. The other two members of the troupe were out, enjoying the celebrations that came after a successful performance. It was a surprise then, when Junsu stumbled inside the enclosure, cursing silently when he almost tripped over the sorcerer’s cauldron.
“Junsu?” Jaejoong whispered, mindful of Changmin who had not woken up with the sound of the cauldron rolling away into a corner.
“Jaejoong? You’re still awake?” Junsu asked in an equally quiet tone as he settled himself on the pile of cushions next to Jaejoong, tugging at his boots and at the string on his breeches. Lastly he threw his shirt over his head, breathing a sigh of relief when the air hit his sweat-dampened skin. “Yoochun is not coming back tonight, he found a nice lass,” Junsu chuckled.
“The dog,” Jaejoong said, shaking his head. “Why didn’t you stay with him?”
“I ran out of coins,” Junsu confessed guiltily while he fluffed some cushions.
“Gambling again? Junsu!”
At Jaejoong’s loud exclamation, Changmin rose into a sitting position. He seemed to look around for a moment only to settle back to sleep, mumbling something about not getting enough dinner. Jaejoong and Junsu, who had been holding their breaths, relaxed immediately after that.
“Shhhh, don’t tell Changmin!” Junsu whispered harshly before settling down next to Jaejoong, close enough so that they could still talk quietly but far apart enough so that their combined body heat did not make the warm night any harder to bear for them.
“So,” he started propping his head up with his hand. “Why aren’t you sleeping yet? You said you were tired.”
“I am tired. Just have a lot in my mind, that’s all,” Jaejoong said.
“Dirty thoughts about the prince?” Junsu teased. He found enjoyment in having Jaejoong be the butt of all their jokes for a while instead of him.
“Hey!” Jaejoong retaliated, but he still felt the heat that rose to his cheeks. To be honest he had been thinking about that, especially with Yunho’s bold move that afternoon. The mere thought about that moment made his mind go crazy with desire.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t done anything, Jaejoong. The festival is almost over, you know?”
Junsu’s words felt heavy upon his ears, his stomach sinking at the thought of the little time he could spend with the prince before they had to leave. He tried not to think about it, pushing the deadline to the back of his mind and enjoying what he could, but he feared that in the end that would not be enough. He would have to talk to Yunho about it the next day.
“You’re right, I’ll approach him about it,” Jaejoong said, before peeling his cat from his chest, setting the annoyed animal on the floor. “Get off, Jiji, it’s too hot.”
With an angry swipe of its tail, Jiji went to curl next to Changmin, who cradled the cat between his arms, much to Jaejoong’s and Junsu’s amusement.
Junsu’s smile was evident when he spoke. “He’s going to kill it in the morning.”
“No, he won’t,” Jaejoong said with a smile of his own. He was starting to get drowsy, his mind settling with the decision to talk to the prince in the morning. He yawned before turning on his side, holding a pillow between his bent arm and his head. “Good night, Junsu.”
“Night.”

Yunho approached the square riding in front of a small group of guards. It was early in the morning but the peasants were already up and they scrambled away from the street when the group of riders went through, hastily bowing at the prince when he passed by.
There square was strangely empty so getting to the caravan was no big feat for the group. There was something unsettling about the ease in which they navigated between stages and stands but Yunho could not put his finger on it. Cheerful whistling was heard just before Yunho could dismount his horse to go get Jaejoong and a head of curly brown hair appeared between the horses, the men urging the animals to make way for the strange man to pass.
“Your Highness,” Yoochun greeted as soon as he was standing in front of the group with an exaggerated flourish and a mocking smile that Yunho had learned to ignore. “Did you come to get our beautiful performer? I’ll get him for you if you only wait a minute.”
“That would be nice, Yoochun,” Yunho said, trying with all his might not to let the man get to him.
Yoochun still smirked at him but disappeared out of sight after he climbed into the caravan.
So much for being friends, Yunho thought. That fellow was as infuriating as ever, and he seemed to get great enjoyment from pushing all of Yunho’s buttons. His grip around the reins tightened, the leather squeaking between his palms.
Before long Jaejoong appeared between the red canvas flaps and Yunho’s frown turned into a warm smile. He jumped down to the floor, his blonde hair floating up on the air and settling beautifully against his cheeks when he landed.
“Good morning,” Jaejoong greeted.
“Good morning, Jaejoong,” Yunho greeted back and motioned one of the guards to approach.
The man dismounted his horse and untied the reigns of another horse from his horse’s saddle. When he walked towards Jaejoong with a horse, Jaejoong couldn’t stop the gasp that fell from his lips.
He stared wide eyed and open-mouthed at the horse trailing behind the guard. It was a large beast of the purest white color. Its eyes were a warm caramel brown and its mane was long and lustrous.
Jaejoong turned his incredulous stare towards Yunho, who was merely grinning, seemingly pleased with himself.
“You like him?” Yunho asked.
Jaejoong scoffed. “Like him? He’s beautiful!”
“Well, he’s yours now,” Yunho said, and that was the guard’s cue to hand over the reins to the flabbergasted blonde.
“But—“
“Let’s go, Jaejoong. Before the sun gets any hotter,” Yunho pleaded.
Jaejoong seemed to be about to say something else but he closed his mouth and nodded, climbing on the horse and steered it around so he was standing next to Yunho. They lead the group through the city, riding at a light trot and slowing down to a walk in the more crowded areas.
“This is really too much, Yunho. I have nowhere to keep him!” Jaejoong tried reasoning with Yunho just as they passed next to the marketplace but the man was too stubborn.
“Nonsense. Where do you keep those mighty oxen that pull the caravan anyways?” Yunho retorted.
“We rent stables outside of the city, but that’s not the point!” Jaejoong said exasperated. Truth was he was very happy with Yunho’s gift, the horse was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen in his life, but it was a bit too much, especially considering Yunho intended on him keeping the animal. For their lifestyle it was impractical to have a horse, and it was not really needed.
“Okay, okay. He can stay in the royal stables and he’s yours to use while you’re here, happy?”
Jaejoong huffed at Yunho’s practicality, but the prince only laughed.
Before long they had reached the outskirts of the city. Yunho looked at the horizon and smiled. There were no clouds in the otherwise light blue sky so there would be no mean weather tampering with their fun. He spurred his horse on, riding it at a fast gallop. Jaejoong was quick to follow and soon he was riding next to him. Yunho noticed how Jaejoong was an excellent rider for someone that did not usually travel by horse. He wondered where he learned to ride like that.
Fields after fields of planted crops passed in a blur around them. Both men and women alike would rise from their crouches to stare at the riders, mouths hanging open when they saw it was the prince and the festival’s celebrity, Jaejoong of the Red Caravan. The girls would try to wipe the mud from their faces with their tattered aprons, whispering between them and trying to decide which one was more handsome.
Jaejoong noticed their interest, so he would smile and wave at some of them and they would shyly wave back only to erupt into fits of giggles when he made eye contact with them.
Yunho felt the bitter taste of jealousy rise to the back of his throat. Those girls should not look at his Jaejoong with those yearning eyes. And for the sake of keeping the attention away from Jaejoong he waved at the girls as well, some of them holding their chests as if they were going to faint.
To Yunho’s delight, the planted fields were soon replaced with gracing lands, where barely any people went if they were not surrounded by a group of sheep or cows. A river curved from the mountains and across the gracing lands, running next to the road for a while, its gentle current creating a melodious sound as the water hit the rocks protruding from the riverbed.
They slowed down to a stop, all the men climbing down from the horses and letting them drink from the river. The guards stood close together, chatting amicably among themselves several feet away from the prince and his friend. They had been riding closely behind them for precaution but gave the two men certain distance so they could enjoy their privacy.
Yunho decided that distance was not enough and spotting a small town in the distance he called for the captain of the guards.
“Your Highness?” the captain said.
“You see that town over there? Take your men there and take a break,” Yunho instructed, pointing towards the town a few minutes away from where they stood.
“With all due respect, Your Highness, you should not go around without a guard,” the captain tried to reason.
“I won’t tell if you don’t tell,” Yunho said with a wink but his tone was definitive. “Besides, Jaejoong, do you know how to use a sword?”
The blonde had been petting the white horse’s neck as he drank when he was called. He turned around, eyebrows furrowing in confusion, completely oblivious to the conversation between the prince and the guard. “Yeah. Why?”
“Give me your sword belt,” Yunho told one of the guards who quickly untied the belt and handed it to the prince.
“Here you go,” he said, handing Jaejoong the belt. “Now we’re not completely defenseless.”
With that done he turned to the captain. “Now, go and we’ll meet here just before nightfall. Is that clear?”
“Yes, sir,” the captain said, bowing before rounding up his men and riding away to the town, the horses’ hooves raising the dust as they galloped away.
As soon as they were so far away that they became the size of Yunho’s fingernail, the prince reached Jaejoong in a couple long strides before wrapping his arms around Jaejoong’s waist from behind. He kissed Jaejoong’s neck and laid his cheek upon the blonde’s shoulder blade, humming in contentment. “Alone at last.”
“You, my prince, are not subtle at all,” Jaejoong said with mirth, placing his hands on top of Yunho’s and leaning back on the taller man’s chest.
“To hell with subtlety,” Yunho mumbled, turning Jaejoong around and clashing their lips together.
The kiss carried all the frustration Yunho had held inside him, being so close to the beautiful man without being able to touch him while a bunch of peasant girls were allowed to flirt with him. Jaejoong’s lips felt soft beneath his, and when he parted his lips, inviting Yunho’s tongue inside the warm cavern of his mouth, the prince couldn’t help the heart-felt sigh of pleasure. The tender moment was interrupted, however, by a sound of a totally different kind. It was Yunho’s stomach, growling in hunger.
Jaejoong parted from the kiss laughing, arms wrapped around Yunho’s neck and weighing him down as he bended over in laughter. Yunho tried to remain serious, clearing his throat while a pink blush spread over his cheeks.
“It’s not funny,” he said, poking Jaejoong’s sides in hopes the other man would either stop laughing or stop clinging to his neck while he did so, but the blonde only laughed harder from the tickling sensation. He tried nudging the shorter man’s shoulders. “Jaejoong!”
“Sorry,” the blonde said between chuckles; unwrapping his arms from Yunho’s neck and straightening up. When Yunho caught sight of his face he saw that there were tears in his eyes, probably from laughing so hard. The prince pouted, looking even more childish when his stomach grumbled. Again.
Jaejoong hid his laughter behind a toothy grin. “Didn’t you eat breakfast?”
Yunho’s blush darkened and he looked away.
“I was too impatient to see you,” he mumbled.
“We can go somewhere for an early lunch if you’d like,” Jaejoong said, kissing Yunho’s red cheek. “Come on.”

I feel like yunho’s compensating jae because he’s going to have a fiancé. with the horse in the royal stable, it's like yunho's inviting jae to come back.
was junsu being a gambler mentioned in the previous chapters?
